The history of LAMBDA is a story of technological progress, social responsibility—and a steadfast commitment to driving positive change through innovative landfill gas recovery systems.
What began in Wuppertal in 1984 has grown into an established specialist in gas technology, leachate treatment, and renewable energy.

Here you will find the most important milestones from nearly 40 years of Lambda.

The Early Years: 1984–1991

Hofstetter GmbH was founded in Wuppertal by the shareholders Hofstetter AG, Heinz Busch, and Norbert Garbers.

Installation of the first high-temperature flare at the "Gerolsheim" hazardous waste landfill.

The first training course for operators of landfill gas extraction systems—a program that continues to this day and is held twice a year.

Renamed to LAMBDA Gesellschaft für Deponiegastechnik mbH.

Growth & Expansion: 1998–2007

Acquisition of the leachate treatment business
unit; integration of LAMBDA into the AGR Group

Founding of Minegas GmbH to develop mine gas projects
First approvals of mine gas rights

Commissioning of the first mine gas plant

Name change: “Gesellschaft für Gastechnik mbH” – as part of the expansion of its service portfolio to include the treatment of mine, landfill, and biogas

Patent Application: Method for Biological Low-Volume Gas Treatment (OCHC)

Introduction of the LAMBDA CHC (hydrocarbon converter) for low-volatile gas treatment; filing
of a patent application for the NCHC process for nitrogen removal;
first in-house exhibition at the Emscherbruch landfill site, with North Rhine-Westphalia Environment Minister Eckhard Uhlenberg as guest of honor

Innovation & Specialization: 2008–2019

Launch of the LAMBDA OCHC for the biological treatment of low-volatility gases

Introduction of a heat recovery module for the LAMBDA CHC
Presentation of the LAMBDA dOCHC – a decentralized, energy-self-sufficient solution for flexible low-temperature gas treatment

Expansion of an existing ultrafiltration plant at the Emscherbruch landfill
; introduction of the NCHC process for biological nitrogen treatment

Relocation of the company headquarters from Wuppertal to Herten

Commissioning of the 50th LAMBDA CHC

Commissioning of the first low-gas plant with e-flox® burner technology

Development of the first mobile gas extraction system with a CHC low-flow gas treatment module

Commissioning of the 100th LAMBDA CHC

Expansion & New Markets: 2020–2025

Launch of the "MGF" mobile gas flare to reduce methane emissions in natural gas transmission and distribution networks.

Commissioning of the first LAMBDA RTO system

Name change: “Gesellschaft für Klimaschutz und regenerative Energien mbH” – as part of the expansion of its product and service portfolio

Commissioning of the first LAMBDA-FOXX system

Commissioning of the 200th LAMBDA CHC
